Frequently asked questions:
The following questions are the most common questions we are asked about regarding Student Loan Counseling.
Money Fit is a nonprofit debt relief program and financial education service. For decades, we’ve helped individuals regain financial control, repay their debts in full, and find peace of mind. Our programs can address credit card debt, payday loans, collections, medical bills, and more.
Our debt consolidation program works by combining your unsecured debts (credit cards, payday loans, medical bills, etc.) into a single, more manageable monthly payment. We negotiate with your creditors to potentially lower interest rates and eliminate fees, helping you repay your debt in full, usually within five years or less. If a debt repayment plan isn’t the right fit, our free credit counseling sessions with budgeting assistance and personalized education can still empower you to take control of your finances.
We work with thousands of creditors across the US, including:
- Major Credit Card Companies: Discover, Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, American Express, etc.
- Payday Lenders: Advance America, Money Tree, Spot Loan, Credit Ninja, etc.
- Medical Providers and Collection Agencies
Here’s how our debt consolidation program works:
- Free Counseling Session: We’ll assess your finances, create a budget, and determine if consolidation is right for you.
- Consolidation Plan: We combine your unsecured debts and negotiate with creditors for reduced interest rates and fees.
- Single Monthly Payment: You make one payment to us, and we distribute it to your creditors.
- Account Closure: Credit card accounts are closed to prevent further spending.
- Accelerated Payoff: As each debt is paid off, that money rolls over to pay down your remaining balance faster.
While each situation is unique, here are common reasons people choose our debt relief program:
- Difficulty making minimum credit card payments and wanting to pay off debt faster.
- Struggling to cover essential expenses like rent, mortgage, or car payments.
- Feeling a genuine need for financial assistance.
We offer free credit counseling to everyone. This personalized session will determine if our debt relief program is the right fit for you.
As a nonprofit, our primary focus is on financial education. This means:
- Our credit counselors prioritize helping you understand your budget and create a workable plan.
- We provide free financial education resources tailored to your needs.
- We offer numerous workshops and webinars to empower individuals and communities with financial knowledge.
