Food Resources
Food Bank of Northeast Georgia
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia works with a significant number of local, state, regional, and national Product Partners to bring food into our community from all over the county. We are a network of friends working to feed the ill, needy, seniors, and children of northeast Georgia. Our mission is to work toward ending hunger as part of an overall community effort to alleviate poverty.

Federal Resource – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
SNAP provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of needy families so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency.

HomeSafe Georgia
HomeSafe Georgia will help by providing “bridge” mortgage assistance to many Georgians who are unemployed or have seen a dramatic decrease in their income due to national economic conditions.

Heating Energy Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.)
H.E.A.T. helps low-income households meet their energy needs through partnerships with concerned citizens, energy companies, state governments, community action agencies, corporations, and other organizations.

The EAP (Energy Assistance Program) provides assistance to low-income households who require assistance in order to pay for their heating and cooling bills.

GCCA is a non-profit membership organization serving as the voice of Georgia’s licensed child care providers within the halls of government and within the broader community of early learning professionals.

Governor’s Office of Workforce Development
The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development (GOWD) was created to improve the job training and marketability of Georgia’s workforce and drive future economic growth for the state. GOWD was established to implement state workforce development policy as directed by the Governor.

Georgia – Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance provides monthly cash benefits to very low-income families based on eligibility standards set by the states. TANF is not an entitlement program, meaning eligible families are not guaranteed benefits. One of the main goals of TANF is to transition recipients to employment so that cash benefits are no longer necessary.

Federal Resource – Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
WIC is a federally funded nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children that helps families by providing financial assistance to purchase healthy supplemental foods from WIC-authorized vendors.
WIC also provides nutrition education, breastfeeding information, and support as well as assists in finding healthcare and other community services.
Federal Resource – The Head Start Program
Head Start programs support children’s growth and development in a positive learning environment through a variety of services, which include:
- Early learning: Children’s readiness for school and beyond is fostered through individualized learning experiences. Through relationships with adults, play, and planned and spontaneous instruction, children grow in many aspects of development.
- Health: Each child’s perceptual, motor, and physical development is supported to permit them to fully explore and function in their environment. All children receive health and development screenings, nutritious meals, oral health, and mental health support. Programs connect families with medical, dental, and mental health services to ensure that children are receiving the services they need.
- Family well-being: Parents and families are supported in achieving their own goals, such as housing stability, continued education, and financial security. Programs support and strengthen parent-child relationships and engage families around children’s learning and development.
Federal Resource – Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides grant funds to states and territories to provide families with financial assistance and related support services. State-administered programs may include childcare assistance, job preparation, and work assistance.

We offer free legal services in civil cases to people who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. Our work is to assure that low-income people have access to justice and opportunities out of poverty.

Georgia – Medicaid
Medicaid is a program that provides health care services to individuals that meet the requirements for income, resources, and citizenship. Individuals may apply for Medicaid at any local DFCS office, by mail, telephone, fax, e-mail, or at designated agencies.

Federal Resource – Medicaid
Authorized by Title XIX of the Social Security Act, Medicaid was signed into law in 1965 alongside Medicare. All states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories have Medicaid programs designed to provide health coverage for low-income people. Although the Federal government establishes certain parameters for all states to follow, each state administers its Medicaid program differently, resulting in variations in Medicaid coverage across the country.
